DAEGU, South Korea: Micro-NX is a South Korean company that specialises in manufacturing dental electric motors, including motors for implant surgery procedures. Its electric motors are manufactured using a technology patented in China, Japan and the US. They are exported worldwide and are growing in popularity. At IDS 2021, Micro-NX will launch a new line of products, including contra-angle and straight handpieces available in gear ratios 1:1, 16:1 and 20:1.

Quest for tooth whitening: Study reports extensive damage to dental cells by carbamide peroxide


TORONTO, Canada/LONDON, UK: As the quest for having whiter teeth continues, it is crucial to fully understand the extent of damage that tooth-whitening agents could have on oral health. In the first study of its kind, researchers sought to dig a little deeper into the issue and investigated the possibly deleterious effect of hydrogen peroxide-derived free radicals on dental cells. They found that exposing teeth to certain concentrations of carbamide peroxide gel harms the dental pulp cells and that this damage is irreversible.

2021 GNYDM to only accept fully vaccinated attendees


NEW YORK, U.S.: The 2020 Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM) went virtual owing to the pandemic, but its 2021 iteration is set to return to an in-person format. To minimize the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, the event’s organizing committee has announced that proof of vaccination against the virus will be compulsory for attendees.

LONDON, UK: The UK government has adjusted the cap for medical and dentistry courses for 2021 in order to support the National Health Service workforce of the future. To meet the needs of the increased number of students, medical and dentistry schools across England will receive additional funding to expand courses for the coming year. However, as a result of this change, some classes in universities are oversubscribed and dental students have been offered a financial incentive to switch to a different university.
