New NHS Scotland guidance criticised by BDA

STIRLING, UK: Earlier this week, NHS Scotland released new guidance for the prevention and handling of potential respiratory infections in healthcare patients. Developed with the understanding that COVID-19 and other respiratory infections will likely surge during the 2021/2022 winter months, the guidance has nevertheless drawn criticism from the British Dental Association’s (BDA) Scotland branch, which has accused the Scottish government of saddling dentists with “a system that is unfit for purpose”.

The status of trade fairs in Germany

LEIPZIG, Germany: It is no secret that the 39th edition of the International Dental Show (IDS) will look vastly different to previous iterations. The record 160,095 international visitors that attended IDS 2019 will be greatly reduced owing to COVID-19 travel restrictions, though a hybrid approach will mean more people than ever will participate virtually rather than in person. Tobacco harm reduction core element of periodontal therapy, says head doctor

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany: Experts are calling for the integration of tobacco harm reduction (THR) strategies into dental care. Prof. Dirk Ziebolz, head doctor at University of Leipzig Medical Center in Germany, says that dental professionals in the EU are in a position to inform their patients about THR, but are currently lacking knowledge on the subject. When it comes to regulatory support, health authorities in the US are pushing ahead with the cautious adoption of THR products, but those in the EU have been accused of showing a failure of innovation and courage by omitting them from policy-making.
