Oversubscribed dentistry degrees in England: Students offered payment to switch university


LONDON, UK: The UK government has adjusted the cap for medical and dentistry courses for 2021 in order to support the National Health Service workforce of the future. To meet the needs of the increased number of students, medical and dentistry schools across England will receive additional funding to expand courses for the coming year. However, as a result of this change, some classes in universities are oversubscribed and dental students have been offered a financial incentive to switch to a different university.

Interview: Procter & Gamble—commitment to advancing healthy oral care habits and sustainability


Celeste Giganti obtained her master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Palermo in 2004. She joined Procter & Gamble right after graduating, and after several roles in Feminine Care and Baby Care, she joined Oral Care’s newly established sustainability team in 2020. She is the Oral Care R & D director for sustainability in Europe and for manual toothbrushes globally. During the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which took place in Barcelona from 28 June to 1 July, she gave a presentation on P&G Oral Care’s newest sustainability commitments to advancing healthy oral care habits and helping to transform the health of people while reducing the impact on our planet.

Planmeca to aquire Envista’s KaVo Treatment Unit and Instrument business


HELSINKI, Finland/BREA, Calif., US: It was announced today that Planmeca, one of the largest privately owned manufacturers in the dental field, has entered into a binding agreement to acquire the KaVo Treatment Unit and Instrument business from Envista for up to U$455 million (€383 million), including a potential earn-out payment of up to U$30 million (€25 million). The transaction is expected to close at the end of this year.

Graphy presents first direct 3D-printed aligner with shape memory function


COLOGNE, Germany: At the 39th International Dental Show (IDS) in September, South Korean manufacturer Graphy showcased the world’s first direct 3D-printed aligner, produced from the company’s own 3D printing resin. The aligner is equipped with a shape memory function, meaning the polymers remember the original printed shape. According to Graphy, its product is the only one available on the market featuring this property.
