Dental bonding uses a composite resin to strengthen and improve the appearance of teeth. The composite resins used in dental bonding can restore decayed teeth, improve the appearance of teeth, change the color of teeth, and change the apparent shape of a tooth.
A thin coat of plastic material is applied to the surface of the teeth, to which a cosmetic dentist will apply bonding material and sculpt an ethetically pleasing shape. The plastic is then hardened using a high-intensity light, and the surface is polished. Dental bonding with composite resin lasts longer than traditional silver fillings, usually seven to eleven years.
Often insurance companies will cover the cost of dental bonding, especially when it is done to strengthen the tooth (as opposed to strictly for cosmetic reasons). The average cost of dental bonding is $300 to $600 per tooth, depending upon your location.
